Workshop 1 | "Management Styles in Jazz"
A Jazz Band as a Metaphor for Management Styles and Collaboration
How is it that a jazz band is such a swinging and synchronized unit? Who’s in charge? Why does everyone know their musical role so well? How is it that all the musicians keep the same tempo?
All of these questions will be addressed in the workshop “Management Styles in Jazz.” A live jazz band from the Jazz Centrale (such as a trio or quartet) will lead a workshop in which we’ll play live and explain how a jazz band can function like such a well-oiled machine.
This will serve as a powerful metaphor for your teams when it comes to working together, where there is room for every individual to fully flourish with his or her specific qualities and the role that goes along with them!

- The jazz band plays live, and between songs, the musicians talk about their roles in the band
- Typical duration of the workshop: 1–1.5 hours
- Of course, there will be time for discussion and questions
- You can choose from instrumental ensembles, but an ensemble with a vocalist is also an option
- Tip: If you're wrapping up the day with a cocktail reception for your colleagues, we can, of course, provide some atmospheric background music for the occasion.

About our instructor
Jazz and soul singer SaraLee has been performing in bands and sessions since shewas 13, studied at Codarts in Rotterdam, and has been a regular and valued member of the Jazz Centrale team for many years.
Sheknows how to turn every performance into a unique celebration. She is a talented songwriter and occasionally releases her own work.
In addition, she has been happily passing on her expertise to her students for 20 years. For the past 15 years, she has specialized in group lessons, workshops, and courses, as a vocal director and conductor.
This has given her a wealth of experience in inspiring new groups of people; she has now literally gotten thousands of people singing along with joy.
