Can a jazz band perform outdoors, for example, at a garden party?
Yes, Jazz Centrale regularly performs at garden parties, outdoor cafes, and outdoor receptions. Requirements include a flat, dry performance area measuring approximately 3 by 3 meters, a power outlet within 3 meters, and usually a canopy, such as a party tent or awning. This protects the instruments and equipment from rain and from the intense sun, which can cause pianos and string instruments to go out of tune. Upon request, a mobile ensemble that does not require electricity can also be arranged.

What happens if it rains during an outdoor performance?
For outdoor performances, Jazz Centrale arranges a backup plan in advance in case of bad weather, such as a covered area or an indoor venue. On the day of the event, a decision is made together with the client before the performance begins regarding where the band will play. In the event of rain, strong winds, or extreme heat without a canopy, the band cannot play outdoors without shelter, as this would endanger the instruments and pose an electrical safety hazard.

Can I hear the musicians perform beforehand?
Yes. Each lineup on the Jazz Centrale website includes audio clips and photos, so you can get a sense of the style and atmosphere in advance—from bossa nova to swing and Dixieland. What are the musicians wearing?
The musicians of the Jazz Centrale always dress in a stylish ’50s look: black suit, white shirt, and a chic black bow tie. This gives the band a very stylish appearance. Even when the audience is dressed more casually, this dress code is appropriate. The female vocalists wear matching dresses or formal attire. An extravagant “ Roaring 20's ” outfit is also an option!

Is there a substitute in case of illness?
If one or more musicians are unable to perform due to illness, there is always a replacement musician available—thanks to our large team—who offers the same level of quality and experience. All musicians at Jazz Centrale perform at the highest level and have many years of experience. They can play together in any ensemble.

What happens if I cancel?
In the event of cancellation, cancellation policies apply, which are disclosed when the booking is made. Essentially, as the date of the performance approaches, an increasingly higher percentage of the cancellation fee becomes due. To this end, cancellation insurance can also be purchased through Jazz Centrale.

How long does a jazz band play, and how many sets are there?
A standard performance by Jazz Centrale consists of two 45-minute sets with a 15-minute break in between. For weddings and longer events, three or four sets are common, for example, spread out over the ceremony, reception, and dinner. The sets are tailored to the day’s schedule, so playing at specific times with intervals in between is also possible. Additional playing time can be booked in 45-minute increments per hour, even on the evening of the event itself, subject to mutual agreement.

Will there be music during the band's breaks?
During breaks, the band can play a mellow background playlist through its own sound system to fill the silence. If you’d like to hear live music or vinyl during the breaks as well, you can pair the band with a Vinyl Jazz & Soul DJ from the Jazz Centrale, who will seamlessly complement the sets.

Should the musicians be provided with food and drinks?
For performances around dinnertime, a meal for the musicians is appreciated; this may simply be the same meal served to the guests or a meal provided by the caterer. In addition, the musicians request water, soft drinks, or other beverages during the performance, and, if possible, a quiet space to change clothes and spend their break. These arrangements will be discussed in detail in advance and included in the confirmation.

How does the payment process work?
Once the quote has been approved, the individual client will receive a confirmation email with a payment link for the deposit. The remaining balance must be paid no later than 5 days before the performance. Payment can be made via iDEAL, credit card, or Bancontact. Business clients may also pay by invoice after the performance.

Do business customers receive invoices with VAT?
Yes, business clients receive an invoice that includes a VAT breakdown, the Chamber of Commerce number, and space for their own reference or PO number. Upon request, the invoice can be issued in the name of another entity or department. The prices quoted by Jazz Centrale for business clients are exclusive of VAT. For business clients in Belgium, Germany, and Luxembourg with a valid VAT number, VAT is generally reverse-charged.

How much does it cost to hire a jazz band?
At Jazz Centrale, the typical cost for a professional jazz ensemble (2 × 45 minutes, Randstad area) is as follows: Solo jazz pianist: starting at €900 Jazz duo: starting at €1,500 Jazz trio: starting at €2,300 Jazz quartet: starting at €3,200 Vocalist surcharge: + €800 The final price depends on the performance duration, travel distance, sound equipment, and the instruments selected. For private clients, the amounts include VAT; for business clients, they exclude VAT. A detailed quote will follow after a brief consultation, usually on the same day.

Why isn't there a fixed price list on the website?
Because no two events are the same. Jazz Centrale provides price estimates based on the lineup, but determines the final price on a case-by-case basis. Factors such as the performance duration, travel distance, and technical requirements are taken into account, as well as the choice of, for example, a saxophonist or vocalist. This way, you pay for what your event needs, not for a standard package.

How is the price of a performance determined?
The price is determined by factors such as the number of musicians, the chosen instruments (for example, with or without a saxophone or vocalist), the duration, whether extra technical equipment is needed, and the travel distance to the venue. Because every combination of these factors creates a unique event, the price is determined on a custom basis per inquiry.

Can I get an indication beforehand before getting in touch?
Yes. As a general guideline: a jazz duo for a 1.5-hour reception starts at around €1,500, while a trio for a wedding (reception and dinner) usually costs between €2,300 and €2,600. To provide an exact price, we’ll need the date, location, performance duration, and number of guests. Once we have that information, we’ll often send you a customized quote within 15 minutes.

Does the Jazz Centrale work with fixed packages or custom solutions?
The Jazz Centrale doesn't use off-the-shelf packages, but rather builds the lineup based on your event. With personal advice, you choose which instruments and musicians best fit the occasion, the number of guests, and the desired atmosphere.

An agency directory shows a broad range of individual artists and bands that customers have to choose from and compare themselves, often across multiple genres. Is a singer required, or can it be purely instrumental?
Both are possible. A purely instrumental lineup often works best as atmospheric background music, while a vocalist brings the music more to the foreground and brings recognizable classics from the Great American Songbook to life. Which option fits best depends on the character of the event.

Yes, this is one of our most popular requests. A jazz band can play at a volume that allows guests to easily chat and converse while still creating a stylish, professional atmosphere.

Yes, the Jazz Centrale regularly provides live music for gala dinners, anniversaries, and other corporate events. For these types of occasions, clients often choose a larger or more distinctive lineup, optionally with a vocalist, to highlight the special nature of the evening.

How loud does a jazz band play — can guests still easily hold a conversation?
The volume is tailored to the occasion. As background music during a dinner or drinks reception, the band intentionally plays softly so that conversations are easy to maintain. If you want the music to be more prominent, the band can certainly deliver that volume and energy.

How far in advance should I book a jazz band?
To ensure the best selection of musicians and lineup, it’s wise to book well in advance, especially during busy periods such as the holidays or wedding season. Weddings are often booked as much as twelve months in advance. However, Jazz Centrale can also accommodate requests on shorter notice, thanks to its large team of musicians. Please contact us for exact availability around a specific date, and we’ll assess each situation individually.

What does the band need on location (power, space, sound)?
Generally, a 230V power outlet near the performance area is sufficient; the band brings its own instruments and sound equipment, tailored to the size of the venue and the audience. Specific details about the venue, such as space, available technical equipment, or any restrictions, will be discussed in advance.

Can guests request specific songs?
Yes, there is often room for requests, especially within the broad repertoire of jazz standards and swing. Specific wishes can be shared in advance so the musicians can prepare.
